Hair (pt. 3)
When I was 15, me and my mop haired friend (adem) started growing our hair. I had no idea that my hair would curl and form an afro (it was straight when it was short). Adem introduced me to At The Drive-In and so then I had no worries about having an afro.
While I was on placement (i know this is a long time ago but in the agnsty state I am in now, I'm thinking back on moments like this)... as i was stuffing my hair into a surgical cap before going into theatre (to x-ray) one of the surgical nurses said (under his breath just loud enough so i could hear) "white man's afro"
... huh?? Was he emplying that i was 'trying' to be black?? by purposely afro-ing my hair?? like i should chop off my naturally afro forming hair coz it only belongs on a black person. aaa, GOSH,
